So it's 3am and Lacey has had a restful night. She just woke up in some pretty bad pain and we decided it may be time to try to get up and walk..since that was the only option we had at relieving the pains. She was hurting on her rib cage on both sides radiating into her back. The surgeon warned her of these pains and said that her abdomen was held open with a binder for a long time and the ribs were stretched during surgery. That sounds very painful to me and we think the pains are from that stretching. So she got up and walked down the hall (very uncomfortably) and looked out a window that overlooks the MS River, which is a beautiful view. She seemed to get some relief from the pain, so we walked back into her room and she is now settled back in the bed resting. She continues to press on and she has gotten progressively better daily. She can't always see the improvements but as her family we see that she is improving and the nursing staff here also speaks of her improvements. I must say once again, the U of Minn has a medical facility and staff that is unmatched. The nurses here are amazing and the doctors come by 3 or 4 times a day. We have been treated like royalty and we are thankful. We are all encouraged and I must say again, it has been great not hearing that p- word in the past 3 days. It's history!
