Post Opt Night 1

Well it's 603am and Lacey has had a fairly decent night from what the nurses say compared to the average patient. She has had constant pain and lots of it. The nurses and doctors say this is by far the most invasive and painful surgery a patient can have concerning the organs. Then intense pain comes from the amount of manipulation in the surgery as well as the removal of 3 organs and many many new connections to be made in the gut. Lacey pressed her pain button close to 350 times during the night and was only granted medication close to 50 times. She is getting a small constant infusion of pain medication called Dilaudid and can get extra doses every 10 ten for pain. Her pain has been so intense that she has pressed the button constantly, hoping for relief. They have increased the meds throughout the night and she is getting slightly more comfortable. The surgical team just came by and said that she had such a great surgery and a great transplant of islets that it is possible that she'll be insulin free before leaving the hospital in 2 weeks or so. The first 24 hours are very painful and critical but staff says that in days 2, 3 and thereafter, things will begin to get better. Her blood count has stayed good through the night, so there's no evidence of internal bleeding, praise God. Lacey has had no episodes of nausea or vomitting since leaving recovery last night and after all she's been through with nausea the past few months, that is a blessing. So for today, we expect her to rest in bed and possibly even try to sit up late this evening. Since surgery was so extensive and long yesterday, we're not expecting her to walk until tomorrow morning. Physically, she's doing well and has begun the long road to a pancreatitis free life. We are thankful! Please keep praying that God can be glorified through us in this suffering.
